03 Oct Wallaby Soft Release Pen
In December 2022 Hunter Wildlife Rescue was approved by the Foundation for Nation Parks & Wildlife and the Wildlife Heroes Project to build a large soft release Wallaby Pen at Cooranbong.
Building a soft release pen can be a challenging yet rewarding project for all involved, from volunteers to the animals it will benefit in the future.
Building the pen required skills such as carpentry, fencing, construction, and animal welfare knowledge. It required careful planning and construction to ensure the safety of both the animals and humans.
The pen was completed in June of this year.
The soft release pen provides a safe environment for wallabies to gradually adapt to their natural habitat and will help to prevent them from falling prey to predators, it is also a space for injured or orphaned wallabies to fully recover, giving them a second chance to survive and thrive.
Building a soft release pen is an active step towards conserving local wildlife populations. Knowing that we are helping to create a safer environment for animals has been a fulfilling experience.
Overall, building the soft release pen was a rewarding project that required hard work and dedication. The outcome ensures a more sustainable future for wallabies and the environment they live in.
Our Sincere Thanks to the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife and the Wildlife Heroes Project for their support and funding which made this Soft Release Pen a much needed reality
