Wildlife Heroes to the rescue again!
There are many things that a wildlife rehabilitator requires in order for us to perform our role assisting animals, but sadly one thing we sometimes neglect is our own personal safety.
Whether it be trudging through the bush trying to locate an injured animal or even just tending to the daily needs of our little furred, feathered and scaly charges,…..personal, protective equipment is paramount to keeping us safe.
There is much more of a focus thankfully on personal safety nowadays and in recognizing that point, Wildlife Heroes contacted RRANA earlier this year to invite the group to apply for a grant to purchase PPE. The important point about this grant is that RRANA were provided with the opportunity to purchase which equipment was required and not just supplied with items to use. Matters surrounding the use of PPE is certainly not a “one size fits all” scenario as different rehabilitation groups have different needs. We really appreciated the opportunity to discuss the groups spending with the species coordinators and organize the items from different sites.
Some of the equipment has already been put to good use with a recently purchased headlamp being used to assist me handling a microbat prior to release and strong, secure gloves used to handle a rather active Echidna.
RRANA members will certainly get maximum use from all the items that we purchased with the most generous grant from Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife and we sincerely thank you for your continued support.
