Thank you to the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife, Wildlife Heroes Program for awarding a Personal Protective Equipment Grant -this funding allowed me to receive the much needed Lyssavirus Vaccine meaning I will now be able to handle and care for flying foxes safely.
As one of the few wildlife carers in the area I live in, it is a great relief to be able to be protected against such a potential debilitating virus. Flying-fox movements are generally in response to food availability, rather than any strict seasonal migratory patterns. They also do not always move as a uniform group so we do get a fair few that need care – particularly over the hotter months.
