Port Stephens Koalas Benefit From Wildlife Heroes Grant

Port Stephens Koalas has benefited greatly from a grant from Wildlife Heroes for $8,500 to purchase urgently needed medications and rehydration fluids to treat koalas affected by the combined ravages of bushfire and drought. Many of the inpatients that came into care with us were in very poor condition that necessitated saline sub on a regular and ongoing basis in addition to treatment for moderate to severe burns requiring significant use of Flamazine on multiple inpatients for extended periods.
The grant of the funds was very timely in that it enabled us to quickly acquire stocks of expensive treatments for immediate deployment on koalas some of whom were in shocking condition when bought into care.
The Grant is also very important from a psychological perspective for the front line carers who in dispensing the treatments take satisfaction that their actions are bringing relief to badly injured or ill koalas and hopefully improving survival chances.
