19 Apr Koala Care during the fires
During the 2020 bushfires affecting the surrounding areas of Cooma, the koala pictured was rescued by the search and rescue team with her mum. This little joey was named “Camo” (camouflage) and brought to the veterinary triage centre that Wildlife VetCARE helped set up and subsequently was involved in managing. Camo and her mum were health checked by Dr Adele Lloyd (Wildlife VetCARE veterinarian) at the triage centre – unfortunately her mum didn’t make it but Camo was not injured, and needed some hydration and observation, so she went to join two other young orphan koalas. Wildlife VetCARE was subsequently involved in her transition into care and ultimately was signed off by Dr Adele for pre-release with the two other babies in order that they be released back into the wild once old enough. There was definitely a lot of smiles all round for Dr Adele and Wildlife VetCARE vice president Matt on pre-release day!!
