How Grants Help

Where do we start! For a newly formed group it has been a busy time since we obtained the Wildlife Heroes grant. Our organisation Marsupial Mammas and Pappas (MMaP) have been able to subsidise our carers, thus attracting and allowing new carers to be financially stable and continue on the life of a native animal carer. For a number of reasons, a number of our joeys have developed cataracts, and having the funds to pay for food and general veterinary fees has allowed us to put together the monies required for a cataract operation. We were fortunate to find a very good ophthalmic surgeon who has operated on kangaroos and gave them a good chance of success. The operations were done on the 31st of December and on subsequent checks the operations have given them their sight! It is now only time that is required for them to gain maximum sight that will allow their release.

The Wildlife Heroes funding has allowed the carers to concentrate on raising the animals, and along with a group of supporters, to raise funds and promote our group  within the Community. This helped our volunteer firefighter Jeff, to know exactly where to rescue and bring an orphaned joey, that was abandoned by it’s mother on a recent fire ground.
