Caring for wildlife…safely…and with the help of NSW Wildlife Heroes

Australian Seabird & Turtle Rescue were the proud recipients of a NSW Wildlife Heroes grant enabling the purchase of critical personal protective equipment for our staff and volunteers. We are a small, dedicated and motivated group that specialize in the rescue and rehabilitation of seabirds, sea turtles and sea snakes. We rescue and rehabilitate these fauna 365 days a year, largely through the unwavering support of volunteer wildlife carers and generous supporters, such as Wildlife Heroes.

While undertaking wildlife care we often like to think the patients (animals) we tend to are mindful of our actions to help them…perhaps some do…but mostly they are injured, frightened and trying to avoid carers attention, often through measures they know best -biting, poking and scratching. Their “wildness” is how it should be and we continue knowing this. But, what we can do is perform wildlife care with our volunteers safety in mind. The kind support of NSW Wildlife Heroes has allowed this with generous funds to arm our volunteers with protective wear and resources to ensure the safety of carers, and by extension the success of our care to those fauna we rescue.
